Summary

Volunteer Experience
Counter Balance: ATX Harvey Relief - 09/03/2017
- Volunteered at a church, which was being used as a shelter and donation area for
victims of Hurricane Harvey. Sorted through clothes and toys to be given to the victims.

New Mexico Service Trip - Academy for Global Studies - 05/16/2017


- Visited the Acoma Sky Pueblo and took a tour of their reservation. Conducted service
learning and cultural exchange with the To'hajiilee Navajo people. Took an interpretive
river float with Pueblo guides down the Rio Grande River. Took a stunning hike with a
geologist at the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. Had time to explore the
historic Santa Fe, and took a visit to the Anasazi ruins of Bandelier National Monument.

TGPLAN Service Project - Academy for Global Studies - 04/05/2016


- TGPLAN stands for Think Globally, Problem-Solve Locally, and Act Neighborly, and it is
a project conducted by AGS in which students advocate a specific issue. My TGPLAN
group and I went to teach students at Zavala Elementary and O. Henry Middle School
about issues in the Middle East, as well as culture, religion, stereotypes, art and more.
This tied into our issue of Education on Global Awareness.

Costa Rica Service Trip - Academy for Global Studies - 01/20/2016
- During my trip to Costa Rica, I planted trees with the BriBri, painted a nursing home, and
picked up trash along the river. At EARTH University I created a vertical planter, and at
the coffee plantation I picked a basket of coffee beans. When with our Finca family,
Chepita, I helped her plant sugar cane in her garden.

Trash Talk Project - Academy for Global Studies - 12/04/2015


- I was tasked with informing a diverse audience about plastic: where it was from, what it
was made of, what happens if it is not recycled, etc. I was also tasked with up-cycling
plastic bottles into something new and original.

Children Without a Voice - 04/11/2015


- Helped set up, organize, and march in a cause that fights against child abuse at the
Million March Against Child Abuse walk in downtown Austin, Texas.

Heifer International - Academy for Global Studies - 11/12/2014


- At Heifer International, my group simulated a refugee camp in which we received
limited food and shelter. For the service portion of the trip I pulled weeds, and removed
rocks from the crops. I also clipped goat toenails, and made sure the goats were healthy
by measuring their weight, and eye color.

Care Packages or Homeless - 11/04/2014


- Bought toothbrushes, socks, baby powder, deodorant, and a few other essentials, put
them in a ziploc bag and sent them to the homeless for over the holidays.

Extra Curricular Activities and Leadership


Texas Rowing Center - 2013 to 2017
- A part of the crew team for 4+ years, rowing competitively on the team for Varsity.
Competing in regattas across the country, winning medals for the team in multiple top
Varsity and JV boats.
- Practice is five days a week for two to three hours in the afternoon, except Saturdays in
the morning. This excludes outside workouts given by the coach and optional workouts I
choose to do in my free time.
Hall of Honor Leaders Council - 2017 to 2018
- Documented and selected candidates for the Austin High Hall of Honor. Presented
speech during grand assembly honoring selected Austin High Maroons receiving
recognition for their achievements.
- Selection and rehearsal take up about six to eight weeks out of the school year, in which
the council meets periodically after school and during lunch, and then all day the day
before and during Dedication Day; the day when the awards are presented to the entire
school.

Key Club - 2016 to 2018


- Volunteer with different organizations, and help around the community.

Global Citizens Club - 2016-2018


- An official United Nations sponsored club at Austin High that seeks to give back to our
local and global communities.

South Austin Sno - Work - 2015 to 2017


- Served snow cones from a family owned snow cone stand business, mainly during the
summers, but some during the end of the school years.
- Learned multitasking, customer service, time management, and how to handle
high-pressure situations.

- Top ten percent, when Austin High School had ranking.

National Honor Society - 2016 to 2018


- Recognized for leadership, service, and character.

Lightweight 4+ - Texas Rowing Center, Varsity - 2016 to 2017


- Placed first/four at the Head of the Colorado in October 2016.
- Placed third/seventeen at the Head of the Hooch in November 2016.
- Placed second/seven at the Heart of Texas Regatta in March 2017.
- Placed third/seven at Texas Rowing Championship final in April 2017.
- Placed third/nine at the Central Youth Championships final in May 2017.
