The Government of Mauritius, the International Association of Prosecutors and the
Council of Europe are jointly organizing the East African Conference on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence, which will take place in the period of 10 12 July 2017 in Mauritius.
Mauritius is the first African country to accede to the Budapest Convention on
Cybercrime and following the successful implementation of the GLACY project of the Council of Europe, Mauritius is again a priority country under the GLACY+. The Government of Mauritius in line with its vision to make Mauritius a SMART island with a safe and more secure digital environment and having as mission the enhancement of efforts to tackle cybercrime through effective criminal justice response and international cooperation, is committed to be the African hub for regional training in cybercrime and digital evidence.
The International Association of Prosecutors, is a non-governmental and non-political
organization, and is the first and only organization of prosecutors. The Global Prosecutors E-crime Network (GPEN) was established to be the main conduit for the IAP to promote the prosecution of cybercrime. GPEN conducts cyber capacity training for investigators, prosecutors and judges to strengthen the fight against cybercrime in the region.
The Council of Europe is an international organization based in Strasbourg, France,
created in 1949, which comprises 47 Member States and 6 Observers. It promotes - among other values the Human Rights through international conventions such as the Convention on Cybercrime (known as the Budapest Convention) and monitors Member States progress in this and other areas by making recommendations through independent expert monitoring bodies (www.coe.int).
In order to promote awareness worldwide on the applicability of the Budapest
Convention, the Council of Europe and the European Union have jointly agreed in the implementation of a multimillion global capacity building project: the GLACY+ Project (Global Action on Cybercrime Extended). It is within the framework of GLACY+ that the Council of Europe co-finances this important event (www.coe.int/cybercrime).
