OVERVIEW This is the instruction manual for the TDG21B Directional Ground Relay. This instruction manual should be used in conjunction with the “Instruction Manual for B Series Static Protective Relays - Common Edition (6F2S0560).” ‘The TD G21 Brelay is a static relay that detects ground faults for protection of industrial-se distribution equipment. ‘The relay is designed to be enclosed in a relay case (B Series case) of draw-out construction. It requires 1/6 of the unit space. ‘TOSHIBA 8F2S50706 2. SPECIFICATIONS ‘The general specifications of the TDG21B are given in Table 1, ‘The ratings of the target unit are given in Table 2. Drawout handle Fig. 5 External Configure 4 TOSHIBA f 6F280706 4.2 Operation A block diagram of the TDG21B is given as Fig. 6. The operating principle of this relay is presented based on this diagram. The secondary current of ZCT and the tertiary voltage of GPT are isolated and adjusted to appropriate levels for the electronic circuitry by transformers Tl and T2. A bandpass filter is used for filter BPF. This filter removes the. harmonics and DC components of the fault current. It produces a nearly fundamental wave. The phase of filter BPF is shifted by —30° by the phase shifter circuit. At the Ip level detection circuit LD-Ip, the output of the phase shifter circuit and the reference current from the operation value setting circuit are compared, The Vo level detection circuit outputs an intermittent signal when the Vo input exéeeds the operation value (fixed). The phase comparison cireuit detects the phase difference between Ip and Vo inputs. If the phase difference is within a certain range, an intermittent signal is output. The intermittent output signal from this cireuit is converted to a continuous signal by the continuation circuit in the next stage. The signal from the continuation circuit is received by the operation delay circuit TDE2 and if this signal continues for longer than a predetermined time, a continuous signal is output. The signal from the TDE2 circuit is received by the auxiliery relay driver circuit RD and drives the auxiliary relay X. The contact output of the relay is available. If over a certain fixed value of current flows through the output circuit, the target coil (TC) of the target is driven and operation is indicated by the dropped target. This display is maintained. ‘While the relay is operating, the operation indicator LED of the display circuit lights, indicating the operating status of the relay. This LED lights only when the relay is actually operating. This display is not maintained. If the Ip or Vo input falls below the set value, or the phase difference between the Ip and Vp input exceeds a predetermined value, the contacts are reset and the operation indicator LED is extinguished after the time determined by the reset delay circuit TDD. ‘TOSHIBA 6F2S50706 ee aS SESS aS penance 5. APPLICATION The TDG21B relay is designed for high-voltage distribution lines of 5~10A grounded power systens. Even in the case of cable lines, the TDG21B relay is completely capable of determining whether spike-rave-generating ground faults end intermittent ground faults are internal or external. The zero sequence current transformer employed for the ZCT conforms to JEC- 1201-1985. Helass: The zero-phase-sequence secondary current does not change when the secondary load impedance changes. The permissible range of the zero- phase-sequence secondary currrent in relation to the rated zero-phase- sequence primary current is a narrow range of .2~1.8 mA. Lelass: This class is used when the density of the saturated magnetic flux is high and protection is needed against zero-phase-sequence overcurrent, On the other hand, the rated excitation impedance is lower than H class and the permissible range of the zero-phase-sequence secondary current in relation to the rated zero-phase-sequence primary current is a relatively broad range of 1.0~2.0mA. The performance of the H class in the area of the rated zero-phase-sequence current is superior, but in selecting the ZCT the magnitude of the fault current and relay setting sensitivity must be taken into account. Use the overcurrent multiple or excitation impedance as the basis for selection, ‘When the trip current can trip the circuit breaker in 100 ms or less by its own contacts, a trip circuit can be configured without a seal-in relay. ‘The external connections are configured as indicated in Fig. 7. =10 - 6F2S0706 -TOSHIBA 12D CL Jo wesBaiq org 9 6j4 Qu pas oA andng —o-«—_I Ys 40F $50 ora H see H Os N nays panott ‘omad : squamg -1n- TOSHIBA 6F2S80706 ———> Direction of protection zor Circuit hh breaker AN Fig. 7 External Connection Diagram —12- - TOSHIBA 6F2S0706 eee 6.
