C JAM BLUES

This Blues was composed by Duke Ellington, who was one of the greatest pianist, composer
and orchestra director of the 20th century. He wrote a lot of standards, like Take the a
train, Satin doll and Mood indigo.

The structure of this blues belongs to the Original Blues period. It is composed by 12 bars
and by a melody made by only two notes (G and C) that occur in a precise sequence.

Its rhythm is in 4/4 and very simple since it has no irregular figure. It always follows the
melody with a rhythmic cadence on the upbeat.

The harmony respects the Blues framework using the Dominant chord. There are 4 bars in
C 7 (first degree), 2 bars in F 7 (fourth degree), 2 bars belonging to the first degree, one bar
in D minor. The minor second degree takes the place of the fourth because of tonal area
substitution. Then there is one bar in G 7 (which is the fifth degree), followed by two bars
in C 7.

This Blues can be classified among the most famous and played ever, maybe thanks to its
simplicity, which allows a major interpretation and an interpretation of the performer's
choice.
