--Force of Relationship needed to make a group

--Ubiquitous
--Mobilizes powerful forces
--May produce good and bad consequences in the organisation

REASONS FOR THE FORMATION OF THE GROUPS

--Need for the companionship


-- Provides Job satisfaction and enhances motivation
--Protection of members from dangers
Types of groups

--FORMAL GROUPS

Legitimate sub unit of the organization which is duly established


Created by the management to carry out some of the specific work to
achieve some goals of the organization.

--INFORMAL GROUPS

Created due to socio-psychological forces operating at the work space.


Created by natural desire of human being to interact

--ADVANTAGES

1. Learn to understand other people and their viewpoints.


2. Develop a deeper respect for other people, particularly those who are
different in many ways from oneself.
3. Gain greater
social skills in dealing with peers.
4. Learn to share with other people a sense of belonging by participating in
group activities.
5. Clarify ones own concerns, problems, values and ideas through discussion
with others having similar problems in like area

1.Resist innovation and change in work method


2.Opposes management policies
3.Spread rumors affecting the work
4.Jurisdicational disputes among groups creates problems.
5.Sometimes produces role conflict
