How to make an origami rose paper flower,

Swirl Rose

00A.

what the front side of the

paper we will be using in
these instructions looks like

00B.

what the back side of the

paper we will be using in
these instructions looks like
01.

Fold (mountain fold) the

paper in half.

02.

Unfold the paper so that you

can see the crease that you
have just made.

*we have used a black pen

to distinctively show the
"crease".

03.

Fold the lower half in half.

04.

Now fold the upper half in

half.

03.

Fold the lower half in half.

04.

Now fold the upper half in

half.

07.

Valley fold along the red

dash-line in the step #6.
08.

Open the paper and draw

lines.

I used a black pen for

horizontal lines and a red
pen for slanted lines.

09.

Rotate the paper by 180

degrees and repeat the stesp
#5-8.
10.

Rotate the paper 90 degrees

and follow the previous
steps #1-9.

Now, you have five vertical

lines, five horizontal lines,
and four small triangles.

11.

Fold the paper diagonally.

12.

Unfold the paper.

I have used a green pen to

distinctively show the
diagonal line.

13.

Rotate the paper 90 degrees

and follow the step #11-12.

You will now see a crease

going diagonally across the
paper.
14.

Valley fold along the red

dash-line shown in the step
#13.

15.

Unfold and draw a line on

the crease.
16.

Valley fold such that the top

of triangle is aligned to the
black line.

This will be the same

folding if we apply the
valley-folding along the red
dash-line shown in the step
#15.

17.

Open the paper and draw a

red line on the crease you
just made from the step #16.
18.

Rotate the paper by 180

degrees and follow the steps
#13-17.

19.

Rotate the paper and apply

the step #13-18.
20.

Valley fold the four corners.

21.

Turn the paper over.

22.

This will be the folding map

for the steps #23-38.

If you miss any step, you

can come back here to figure
out what went wrong.

23.

We will concentrate on the

bottom part of folding map.

We will mountain fold the

upper vertical line while
valley fold the lower vertical
line.

The technique is called an

inside reverse fold.
24.

Let's do the reverse folding

of a triangular shape

25.

Prepare for three steps of

folding:

(1) Valley fold along the red

line.

(2) Mountain fold along the

blue lines.

(3) Another valley fold will

be immediately followed.
27.

Prepare for another reverse

folding.

28.

Reverse fold according to

the folding map of the step
#27.
29.

Prepare another three stages

of folding.

This will be the same as the

step #25.

30.

Apply the three stages of

folding of the step #29.
31.

Prepare for another reverse

folding.

32.

Reverse fold according to

the folding map of the step
#31.
33.

Prepare another three stages

of folding. This will be the
same as the step #29.

34.

Apply the three stages of

folding of the step #33.
35.

Prepare for another reverse

folding.

36.

Reverse fold according to

the folding map of the step
#35.
37.

Prepare final three stages of

folding.

This will be the same as the

step #33.

38.

Apply the three stages of

folding of the step #37.

39.

The basic body structure is

completed now.

This is the top view of the

structure.
40.

This is the flipped-over view

41.

Now, we are going to work

on petals.

Prepare for a valley fold

shown in the left picture.

42.

You can apply the valley

fold to all four petals.

The red dash-line from the

fold map indicates the valley
fold for each petal.

After this fold, we will

concentrate on the shade
area of polygon.
43.

The matching polygon is

shown here.

44.

Prepare for a valley fold

along the red dash-line.

45.

Valley fold according to the

red dash-line in the step #44.
46.

Unfold the valley fold you

just made.

Then prepare for a reverse

fold (i.e., mountain fold for
the blue line and valley fold
for the red line).

47.

After the completion of a

reverse-fold, prepare for
another valley-fold.

48.

Apply the valley-fold shown

in the step #47.
49.

Now, unfold it and prepare

for another reverse-fold.

50.

Apply the reverse-fold

shown in the step #49 and
then wait for another valley-
fold.

51.

Apply the valley-fold of the

step #50.
52.

Apply the steps #41-51 to

each petal so that we have
four petals shown on the
left.

53.

This is the side view. Let's

concentrate on one leg. A leg
has two layers: left-side and
right-side.

54.

Arrange two layers so that

right-side layer is just
behind the left-side one.

Do this for all four legs.

55.

Head down the body.

56.

Fold down one triangular

leg.
57.

Rotate the rose by 90

degrees in the couter-
clockwise direction. Fold
down another leg.

58.

Do the same for the third

side.
59.

Do the same for the fourth

side.

60.

Insert the triangular leg so

that the bottom is
completely closed.
61.

Turn the rose over.

This is the top view of the

rose and the basic structure
of the rose is completed.

62.

Put one finger on one

quadrant and push it. Do this
for all qudrants.
63.

This will be the top view

after the completion of
quadrant push.

64.

Insert four fingers in each

hole and gently rotate while
grabbing the paper with four
fingers.
65.

The top part of the rose

swirls around the colockwise
direction.

You can also make it to be in

the counter-clockwise
direction if that is what you
want.

66.

Prepare a scissor tweezers.

67.

Grap the top with scissor

tweezers and roate it slowly
and firmly.

You really need a practice

here to make it look good.
68.

This is the top view after the

completion of the step #67.

69.

Curl the edge of the rose

with two fingers.

70.

Or curl the edge of the rose

with tweezers.
71.

Curl all petals with tweezers.

72.

This will be the top view of

the completed Swirl rose.
73.
