September 26, 2017 I know | am not alone when I say that my greatest contributions and accomplishments as a teacher have been the achievement and success of my students. As | reflect back on the multitude of students that have sat in my classroom, my curiosity has always peaked about their futures, | have been fortunate in having one of my students, Garrett Gallagher, come back to teach with me. Sharing in this experience has been one of the highlights of my profession. It is with pride and confidence that | nominate Garrett Gallagher as an Outstanding Student teacher. Garrett is passionate about teaching, passionate about his students! He is a joyful teacher creating an environment of openness and acceptance. His enthusiasm is contagious and students feel safe to try new learning, Garrett understands that being an effective teacher is hard work. Itis not happenstance, or luck. It is the fruit of many hours of planning to implement specific strategies, reflect, and evaluate himself and the growth of his students. Garrett engages his students by thoughtful and intentional lesson planning. He values constructive criticism and professional development to heighten his teaching abilities and to gain valuable knowledge. He enjoys trying new methods, strategies, and implementing the latest in research. Learning for Garrett never ends. Garrett's actions demonstrate his belief that every child deserves the opportunity to be highly educated to prepare them for their future. This culture of belief lets his students know they need to work hard to achieve. They set goals, evaluate themselves, and see personal growth. They become self-motivated in their learning. If were to sum up Garrett, | would want it to be read like this well-known quote, “A great teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.” It sa privilege and honor to mentor Garrett Gallagher.
