Brazils Senate Votes to Impeach President Dilma

Rousseff
Topic: International Relations Location: Brazil

Brazils senate has voted in favor to remove President Dilma Rousseff

from office for manipulating the budget. Sixty one senators voted in

favor of her impeachment and twenty against, meeting the two-thirds

majority required to remove her from the presidency. Acting President

Michel Temer will serve out her term, which ends on January 1, 2019.

President Rousseff had been suspended in May after the senate voted

to go ahead with the impeachment process. She was accused of moving

funds between government budgets. Critics said she was trying to plug

deficit holes in popular social programs to boost her chances of reelection

in October 2014.

This is an example of international relations because Brazils

impeachment of the president can affect many other countries. The

choices the president makes doesnt affect his/her country alone it affects

multiple countries. The impeachment affects Brazils relations with

other countries.
