This video is the culmination of several years of saxophone practice and learning about

jazz. I improvised over Rhythm Changes, a chord progression from the Gershwin chart I Got
Rhythm, in which I created a spontaneous melody over a backing track that went through four
choruses of this progression. I combined what I know about jazz style, the nature of chords,
scales, how they connect, and other facets of jazz theory, as well as melodic ideas from my own
thinking and the influence of the ideas from some of the jazz greats. I used my professional alto
saxophone and jazz setup, the chord chart sitting on my stand, and a backing track to perform
this work.
