Geo Foundations & Structures Pvt. Ltd, 6th Floor, Alpha Plaza, K.P.Vallon Road, Kadavanthra, Kochi - 682020. 1.2 The soil investigation and laboratory studies were caried out in November: December 2007. This interim report summarizes the investigations of borehole studies and furnishes suggestions for the foundations. 2.0 OBJECT OF INVESTIGATION 2.1 The object of investigation is to ascertain the nature and characteristics of sub-soil below the ground level at the proposed site, The study would include identification Of suitatble foundation systems for the subject work and assessment of safe bearing capacity. 3.0_ SCOPE OF WORK The scope of work at this site comprised of the following: 3.1 Mobilization of boring rig with all necessary equipments and personnel 3.2 Boring of four bore-holes of 100mm dia with rotary power ariling equipments through sand, silt, clay & rock etc. to a maximum depth of 42.2metres. 3.3 Conducting Standard Penetration Tests in bore-holes and collecting the disturbed samples including packing and fransportation to laboratry. 34 Conducting Dynamic cone penetration test at one location and submission of results. 3.5 To conduct the following laboratory tests on soil samples: (a) Particle size analysis: Geo Foundations & Siruclures Pvt Lid Client: M/s. A team of technical personnel with skilled labours was also deputed, 42 Four bore-holes of 100mm diameter were bored fo a maximum depth of 42.2M below the existing ground level, the bore-holes were made as per IS: 1892- 1979, Geo Foundations & Shucivres Pvt Lid Client: Ms, Reliance Retail Lid Sol investigation for the proposed RTC Edappaly 43 Disturbed samples were collected at every change of strata or about 1.50 Metres depth interval whichever was earlier. The samples so collected were Carefully sealed and numbered with full particulars for identification and sent to the laboratory for conducting the required tests. 44 Standard Penetration Tests were conducted in the bore-holes ot regutar intervals of 1.50m as per |S: 2131-1981, In this test, the standard split spoon sampler is driven into the ground at the required depth by means of standard hammer of 63.5 kgs weight, falling from a height of 75cm. Number of blows for the fist 15cm is not taken into consideration because of possible disturbances OF Presence of settled, suspended matters at the bottom of the bore- holes. The total number of blows for the next 30cm depth of penetration is Considered as SPT 'N’ values are shown in fig. 2 to 9 4.5 Dynamic cone Penetration test was conducted os per iS 4968{Part-1)-1976 and the details are as given in Annexure -A. 5.0 LABORATORY INVESTIGATION The following laboratory tests were conducted on the selected samples recovered from the test bore-holes: (a) Particle size analysis: (i) Sieve anatysis (i) Hydrometer analysis (0) Index properties: fi) Liquid timit (i) Plastic imit (c] Dry & wet density {6] Water content ‘Geo Foundafions & Sruciures Pvt. Disintegrated rock was observed from 35.0m to 37.0m and rock was found from 37,0m to 40.0m je the termination depth in BH-1, In BH-2, the top 17.0m was very sott sandy clayey silt of high plosticity followed by sandy clayey silt with decayed wood upto 19.0m. From 19.0m to 25.0m very stiff silty clay was observed with high plasticity. Again a layer of Geo Foundations & Siruchures Pui Lid Client: Ms. Reliance Retoit Lic s Soitinvestigation forthe proposed RTC Edappatly sandy sity clay with decayed wood was observed upto 32.1m. Disintegrated rock was found from 2.1m to 34.1m followed by rock upto 37.1m ie the termination depth in BH-2. 'n BH-3 also the top 5.7m was sity sand with clay. From 5.7m to 32.3m the Shrota was very soft to stif clayey sit of high plasticity. Fine sand was observed from 32.3m to 36.8m followed by silly sandy gravel of very dense nature upto 97.2m. Disintegrated rock was found below this depth and bored upto a depth of 39.4m. Rock was observed from 39.4m to 42.2m ie the termination depth in BH-3 In BH-4, also the top 20cm wes filed up laterite. From 0.2m to 4.1m the sata was loose sity sand with clay. Very soft to stif sity clay of high plasticity was observed from 4.1m to 27.2m followed by sity sand with clay of megium to Gense nature upto 31.2m. Disiniegrated rock was observed below this depth ond continued upto 32.6m followed by rock upto 36.2m ie the termination depth, 7.0 DISCUSSION AND TYPE OF FOUNDATION 7A 72 '"'s given fo understand that the proposed siructure is being designed as a Tower/Commercial complex with double basement, This indicates thot the soi! ANNEXURE - A DYNAMIC CONE PENETRATION TEST Client : Mis Reliance Retail Lid 32 Soil investigation for the proposed RIC ot Edappally 1.0 Objective To obtain the relative strengths of the sub soil strata at different places in the project site, which mostly helps like a reconnaissance survey of wide areas in a shorter time. 2.0 Field Investigations : This test is carried out as per the procedure laid down in IS: 4768 [Part |) - 1976. The Dynamic Cone Penetration Test (OCPT) is caried out in the same way as Standard Penetration Test (SPT) except that there is no bore hole for OCPT. A 50 mm cone with a 60° is fitted to the driving rod, which is extended to the required depts and finally filled with a Guide rod. A hammer of 65 kg weight is placed on the driving shaft. The hammer is lifted to freely fall by a height of 75 cms and the number of blows are counted for every 10 cms penetration of the cone into the ground. During this process bentonite slury is Pumped through pressure to eliminate the suriace frictional resistance on the dill rods. The process is repeated fil the cone is driven to the required depth or refusal ie. when the no. of blows are 150 for a 300 mm penetration of the cone set up. A graph is plotied with the no, of blows and the corresponding penetration values. 3.0 Results: The test results are plotted in graphical form for each location and are given herewith, ‘Geo Foundotions and Stuciures Put Lie Project : RTC, Edappally Test No. / Location...1 33: Geo Foundations & Structures Pvt.
