Dark matter is suspected to compose a vast majority of the universes mass composition, so the search

for dark matter sources remains an essential pursuit. Balloon and space-based missions are valuable
assets to solving this dark matter puzzle. However, current detector technologies are cumbersome,
making them expensive in flight. The combination of a silicon photomultiplier and scintillator crystal may
offer a solution. It makes for a compact detector design and could be used in balloon or space-based
particle physics applications. The combination serves as an improvement to previous detectors in size,
making this technology ideal for mission. The performance of this detector technology will be shown.
