2.1 Virtual Fitting Machine (VFM)

A Virtual Fitting Machine (also often referred to as virtual fitting room and virtual
changing room although they do, on examination, perform different functions) is the
online equivalent of an in-store changing room. It enables shoppers to try on clothes to
check one or more of size, fit or style, but virtually rather than physically.

Several virtual fitting room systems are emerging today, linked with retailers such as
Macys Inc. and the J.C. Penney Corporation. They use a variety of components,
including miniature cameras, apps, and Facebook logins.

One of the most fully developed such systems is VFM, a clothes-fitting simulation
developed by Estonian entrepreneur Heikki Haldre and adopted by the European apparel
retail chains Otto and Hawes & Curtis, among others.
