Textbook
Not issued. Students will use instructional materials such as: texts in classroom (HuanYing 3 textbook
& workbooks), authentic magazines and story books, CDs, films, and handouts.

Course Objectives
Students will be able to:
1. Recognize and write simplified Chinese characters
2. Converse with peers and strangers in the target language at the intermediate-low level.
3. Compare elements of Chinese and American cultures so that students may gain a better understanding
for both cultures

3-ring binder with divider tabs (vocab sheets, homework, quizzes, notes/others)
3-hole punch
Pencil or non-green, non-neon pen
Hi-lighter and/or different colored pens/pencils
Optional: index cards

Grades
A students marking period grade will be determined based on the completion of a variety of activities and tasks
in the 3 modes of communication: Interpretative, Interpersonal and Presentational.

Final grades will be determined in accordance with the schools grading policy, which includes a final exam.
This exam is an Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA), which measures a students proficiency in the
language and cultural knowledge in each of the three modes of communication. IPAs are based on themes
examined during the school year and are given in June over an extended period of time. IPAs offer students
multiple opportunities to demonstrate what they know and can do using the Chinese language.
