Snow country by Yasunari Kawabata

Born in 1899, Kawabata was the first japanese literature nobel prize, awarded in 1968. He is one of
the most famous read japanese writers in West. Their works talks about beauty, oldness and women
with an outstanding aesthetic between nature and women.

'Snow country' originally titled 'yukiguni', is the first

Kawabata novel. In this book, Kawabata talks about a middle-
age man called Shimamura who fall in love with Komako, a
younger geisha learner, but cannot be lovers because of the
emotional situation of the man. The story develops a tragic and
a fascinating relation between love, beauty, the snowing place,
and an astounding ending.

It was until begin my career, that I found the book. I did not
know about Kawabata; 'Snow country' was the first of his
works that I read. I think Kawabata had a wonderful talent to
express the beauty. I like the way he use the snow place to
make higher the purity of Komako beauty contrasting it with
her skin. That way to express beauty-nature and woman, is a
pleasure for me that make it be one of my favourite work of
art.
