meeting sees final decision on recent matters

At this weeks Coppell City Council meeting, two topics that have been deliberated over the
course of recent meetings came to a conclusion.

The first item up for approval was the text amendment to the zoning ordinance for hotels,
motels and residence hotels. Two public hearings, one on Jan. 21 and another on Feb. 18, saw
the changes to the ordinances, such as adding a minimum size, and revisiting and clarifying the
definitions used in the ordinance.

Currently, there are two hotels in Coppell, one being Four Points by Sheraton, and another in
the works, Fairfield Inn.

While most of the zoning ordinance changes were agreed upon by all the Council members,
there was hesitation regarding a five-story minimum requirement for all hotels- specifically
from Mark Hill, Gary Roden, and Wes Mays.

Despite this, the the vote across the council was unanimous; all were in favor of the
amendments minus the five-story minimum.

Following this decision, the Council also unanimously agreed upon the zoning change request
for the Wilson-Kirkland-Minyard addition, changing it from .265 acres to .83 acres.

Recently, the Coppell Historic Society moved the historic Infeldt House from its original location
to the southeast corner of Bethel Road and South Coppell Road.

The next item on the agenda was regarding the Sun Holdings development that has sparked
much debate in recent weeks. While the development itself was approved on Feb. 19, its
designs were not.

The Council asked the developers if they would revise the elevations and the contemporary
design, as they favored a more traditional design than the one initially presented. At this weeks
meeting the final designs for the development were shown, as well as the final decision on the
motion; all were in favor. This decision was met with a round of applause from all the council
members as well as Mayor Karen Hunt.
