Advantages of Personal Development

1. Mental Health/Self-esteem

Self-management does not only improve the work life, it can also help to develop
personal life in variety of different ways for example, improving relationships, achieving
a work life balance and controlling actions and emotions better. Besides, whichever way
to develop individual strength, a confidence boost will be an added bonus. Keep on track
of positive and negative behaviors can help to manage better with preventing the negative
behaviors and encouraging the positive ones. This will lead to become a better person and
therefore, improve self-confidence and performance at work, whilst developing self-
esteem and mental health.

2. Productivity/Motivation

Productivity at work can be increase by self-awareness. Becoming aware of strengths and


weaknesses can encourage to produce a high quality work and can give a little confidence
boost and motivation to achieve more. Besides, self-awareness also can guide to develop
weakness into strengths for example, a poor attitude can be turned into positive one. This
can be achieved by recognizing the impact and consequences of current attitude and how
it can affect others in the future. Its certainly not easy, but becoming more aware of how
others respond to or absorb persons mood may encourage to control it or even turn it into
a positive attitude in order to encourage others in workplace. Hence, this should lead a

on track in order to develop the skill therefore it can make the person a more competent
worker.

Disadvantages of Personal Development

1. Subjectivity

A self-development is limited because it is by its very nature subjective. With the


responsibility to rate and access different areas in life. Besides, communication filters,
life experience and self-perception will all alter the accuracy of the development. A self-
development may be useful as a revelation of personal perceptions than an accurate look
in life.

2. No Accountability

Personal development or self-assessment may have limited motivation for change.


Development begins and ends with the person, leaving the challenge on hands to change
areas of weakness. Besides, if another person included in the development process,
accountability can be created that will help you change and stay committed to the world.

3. Social Abilities

A social skill is any competence facilitating and communication with others. Social rules
and relations are created, communicated and changed in verbal and nonverbal ways.
Meanwhile if lack of social abilities among the people, this will lead to feels awkward or
out-of-place when forced to stay and talk with other people.
