GASTROSTOMY

A gastrostomy is performed either for alimentation or for gastric


drainage/decompression.
Gastrostomy may be done percutaneously, laparoscopically, or via open
technique
percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is the most common method used.
The open techniques include
o the Stamm method
o the Witzel method
o the Janeway method

The Janeway gastrostomy is more complicated than the other open techniques,
and is rarely necessary.
By far the most common technique is the Stamm gastrostomy, which can be
performed open or laparoscopically.
