Whole group/ Small group Observation Reflection

My teacher uses rotations during her Math and Reading blocks. She has 16 students so

it is easy to break them up into 4 groups of 4 students. She begins the reading block by

continuing the read along Wonder that they are reading as a class. She asks them questions

to further their understanding of the text. She always leaves the chapter on a cliff hanger to

keep the students interested. She then tells them that it is time to do the rotations. The

rotations include four stations. The stations are technology, teacher time, word work, and read

to self. At teacher time the students gather at the back table and work on Showbie which is

an app that the teacher can monitor and use to look back at later. The students can write on

the IPad and make notes using their GRREAT Strategies. G- Grab the title R- Review the

questions R- Read the passage (twice) E- Every paragraph has a number A- Answer the

questions T- Take time and review the questions. The teacher and students review a small

reading section and answer and review about 5-6 questions. She make them use the GRREAT

strategy and write it at the top of the paper. The next station is Word Work. At this station,

the students do a word boggle where they try to find words from a group of letters. The next

station technology, they practice meanings of words such as (Construction, Object, and

Portable.) At the last station, Read to self, the students pick a book and quietly read to their

selves in the book nook. I really like this rotation, the students are in groups suited to their

ability and similar working abilities. Mrs. ______ makes the rotations fun and engaging. The

students get a little bit of everything during this reading rotation.
