Task

Background

The last 25 years have seen more technological change in photographic technology, than in the 125 years that
proceeded it. Professional photographers, photography educators and photo-enthusiasts have all needed to
develop the ability to develop their range of equipment and methods of workflow constantly. This involves
keeping a check on technology evolution on sites such as DP Review (www.dpreview.com) and from journals
such as the British Journal of Photography (www.bjp-online.com). Photographers can also visit trade events
such as Photokina or The Photography Show to keep up to date.

For every successful innovation, there are numerous unsuccessful or less successful developments. Companies
have to market new products to secure market share and gain revenue for development. In an era that has
seen manufacturers gain market share such as Nikon, Canon, Adobe and Ilford, household names such as
Kodak, Agfa, Minolta and Contax have all but disappeared from the Marketplace.

Task

Create a blog section or a module log to document evidence of personal research for the following:

1. 10 commercially unsuccessful photographic products or technologies since 1992


2. 10 milestone products that have created a benchmark for photographers since 1992
3. An illustrated explanation and diagram of your current personal technology map listing skills,
abilities, familiar technologies and processes
4. 5 future predictions for photographic technology to happen before 2022 and why?
5. A diagrammatical statement of your ideal equipment needs for capture and image production for
the next phase of your career

Present your work in a file/log or as a sign-posted section on your blog site. Additionally you will be invited to
participate in a round the table seminar where you can discuss your own findings for the five sections above.
