Alan Jenkins Memorial Award

Each year, we celebrate the fantastic accomplishments of our online students by awarding a prize to
the graduate we believe has the most inspirational study experience story.

Perhaps youve struggled through difficult personal circumstances to complete your course? Or maybe
youve been able to use your degree to change your working life and climb the career ladder?
Whatever obstacles youve overcome, we want to hear your stories.

This prestigious award was newly-created last year and is named after our late Managing Director,
Alan Jenkins. Alan sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2015 and this award is a tribute to the values that
he held dear and instilled in all of us.

The winner of the award will be presented with a certificate at the University of Essex graduation
ceremony and they will also receive prize money totalling 500. If the winner cannot attend the
graduation ceremony, the certificate and prize money will be sent by post.

To enter, all you need to do is write your inspirational story below (in no more than 500 words) and
return this document by email to m.tamplin@kaplanopenlearning.org.uk by Sunday 18th June.

You may want to consider including the following information in your entry:

Why did you choose to study online with us? Why choose to study at all, and why now?
When you first started your studies, what was your job? Has that changed?
Have your studies changed your personal and/or working life in a way others may find inspirational?
Have you battled against adversity to successfully complete your course?
What sacrifices did you make for your studies?
How have you benefitted from your new knowledge?
What support have you received from us to help you complete your studies?
How do you think you have progressed during your studies?
What opportunities do you feel you can now pursue in the future with the help of your degree?
Why should we award you this prize?

Remember, this is not about the level of your academic achievement; its about your journey and how
you reached your own personal or professional goals.
