Part 1 Stylistic Seriation: Artifact Photographs
Beginning with the first image, I established the date of the 1998 Honda Accord by searching
websites that had details on the older model. Since it is common knowledge that the Accord has been a
staple of the Honda lineup since the 1980s, I found that my search offered an abundance of visual
evidence of the cars popularity. I located the photo of the front dash of a 1998 Honda Accord, on
The second photo was found by my search of 2003 Honda Accord on google.com. The most
relevant results which I found were on Samarins.com, a website that provides consumers with reviews for
The third image was found by researching the 2008 Honda Accord, again on google. Similar to
the previous website, the front dash image of the interior 2008 Honda Accord Coupe was provided by a
consumer car site, titled, cars.usnews.com. It also offered much more technical data on the car, as well as
a complete overview.
The fourth image was found by using the same researching techniques as listed before, and
utilizing the most suitable result. This image was found on Automotive.com, a web site for automobile
hobbyists and well-read consumers. The website provided a full front dash view of a 2012 Honda Accord
V6 Coupe.
The search methods that yielded the last image were done identical to the previous ones, and
resulted in the photo of a brand new front dash of a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. This image was taken
from an informational website that details the interiors and exteriors of automobiles.
All the above artifacts ages were determined in constant five-year intervals with an overall time
span of 19 years. This selecting method was used to highlight the differences between media technology
of a Honda Accord from 1998 to 2017, illuminating the gradual changes that have been displayed
The 1998 Honda Accord, includes some features that arent seen in modern automobiles any
longer. For example, the standard car boasts a cd player, a cassette player, AM/ FM radio functionality,
and a simple analog screen which displays radio stations or song numbers (Honda Owners Site), like what
The 2003 Honda Accord has comparable media technology, but loses and gains some kay
elements that confirm distinction between the older model and this model. The cassette player has been
omitted, most likely due to the popular culture consumption of cds for the time. Another notable
difference is that the standard number of speakers has grown from 2 to 6, over the five-year period, with a
In 2008, the Honda Accord is dramatically enhanced with prime media features for the time. This
includes, a 160 watts speaker output, MP3 capability, an audio jack outlet, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink,
6-disc cd changer, and illuminated digital interfaces for radio (Honda Owners Site). The car still boasts a
As far the 2012 Honda Accord is concerned, it has also been magnified compared to the previous
models listed. The standard features that arent included in the previous models are speed-sensitive
volume controls, steering wheel volume controls, and a USB interface (Honda Newsroom). As seen in the
physical evidence, one could argue that the use of USB and MP3 technology is now more coveted than
For the final piece of the Honda Accord media technology seriation over the past 19 years, the
2017 Honda Accord is the most advanced piece of all. The car has so much more than ever thought
possible with features such as HondaLink (an integrated media system that allows one to send emails and
text messages with voice commands), Siri Hands Free (voice search the internet for iPhone users),
SiriusXM Radio, and Android / iPhone App capability (connect to Music Apps, Facebook, Twitter, and
Yelp) (Honda Owners Site). While analyzing the time span of 19 years for the Honda Accord, it is
increasingly obvious that technology as a whole, has become an integrated part of the Americans
everyday life.
