Precis

1. Katha Pollitt, in an argument and persuasion essay, ( Whats Wrong with Gay

Marriage?) , states that Gay marriage-its not about sex, its about separation of church

and state.

2. Pollitt supports her revelation through humor, (The gay men and lesbians who want to

marry dont impinge on the male-improvement project one way or the other.), to make

fun of the opposition to gay marriage; she also uses a rhetorical question to open with,

(Will someone please explain to me how permitting gays and lesbians to marry threatens

the institution of marriage?), to ensight the reader into wanting to know what the answer

of the question is; Pollitt creates an emotional appeal when hinting her relationships don't

work out, which is something many people can relate too.

3. She wants people to understand there is nothing wrong with same sex marriage in order

to persuade them to be more open minded about it.

4. Pollitt uses an argumentative tone making points that others have made and argued

against them, showing why they are illogical.
