October was a busy month and I was thrilled to be working almost every day.

As I step in
to more and more classrooms my teaching philosophy and pedagogy are shifting and refining.
What would I want my classroom to look like? How can I help students each and every day? If I
am only here for this one day, what can I do to make sure these students know that I care? That
they are valued? How can I show that care and compassion that Rocky View stands for?

During the month of October, I was lucky enough to be called back to guest teach in
schools and classrooms I have been in before. I love going back to the same classes again
because each time I go back Im building on that existing relationship with students and the
expectations are already set. This also helps to build my confidence that I would be successful
in a full time role. While my goal is to obtain a full time teaching position, I enjoy the constant
change and challenges I face as a substitute teacher.

One thing I would like to work on in the month of November is being more firm with
students. I am still struggling to find balance. Usually I am a little more relaxed with students
than their usual teacher would be as I feel this puts students a little more as ease with having a
stranger in the room. However, I find that this can also lead to challenges with authority (i.e. in
high school with cell phone use). During this next month I will try to create a script of some
sort that I can deliver to students that gives them essential information about me and the
expectations of the day. I hope that this will make for even better, smoother, and more
productive days.
