7 System Definition ‘The CYCLONE modeling formats are designed to provide maximum freedom in assembly logic. The interdependence among elements is reduced t0 a mit and the ring sequential assembly are consequently simple. Table 7.1 summarizes the topologie syntax. The letter in each cell uf the tableau indicates the feasibility of an “A” element (indicated tn the left of each row) preceding a B” element (indicated at the top of each column). The only elements that are ly dependent are the QUEUF nove and COMBI processor. A COMBI pro essor can be preceded only by a QUEUE node and, conversely. the only element that can follow a QUEUE node is a COMBI processor. If the COMBI processor column and QUEUE node row are removed, it ean be seen that any precedenre relationship among the other elements is acceptable and immaterial with the ex- veption uf te ACCUMULATOR element, which cannot precede itself 7. NETWORK STRUCTURI ONE model will depend on the identification {and definition of the network elements (i.¢,, the NORMAL and COMBI) together with the associated QUEUE nodes, ARCS, and logical relationships. However, the network stmcture depends largely on the way a work task sequence is modeled, Thus, for example, several units can pass through a NORMAL work task in par. allel and are not constrained to wait until a processor retuins (0 acvompany each This is very helpful in modeling situations that are wot ingredience-constrained, Consider again the curing tunnel situation shown in Figures 7. 1a, b. Carts of bricks sre cured using a curing tunnel into which they are loaded and from which they are extracted using a crane. They move from left to right (in the schematic shown) for a predetermined period of time until they are ready for removal. A logics! ‘model representing this curing process is shown in Figure 7.1c ‘The model illustrates the use of a NORMAL work task ta provide the transit function representing the brick carts passing through the tunel, From a systems Viewpoint, this is a delay function without ingredience: constraint. From a proce: viewpoint, there is no constraint that prevents the precast element from starting its transit through the tunnel following the loading work tas of the flow pattern of the crane, itis uecessary (0 Separate the transit work task from the loading work tasks. ‘The crane must return to its idle state following loading Therefore, the transit work task cannot be combined with the loading work tsk 23
