Tech Chapter: Cyber Bullying

With the increase usage of social media among all generations, so too has there
been an increase in new phenomena known as Cyber bullying.
Cyber bullying is described as the ongoing harassment and bullying of a person through
digital devices, computers, and social media, online gaming, and even SMS text
messages. The sudden increase of teenage suicide can be attributed somewhat to the
increase of cyber bullying among teenagers. Modern technology allows users to stay
connected to each other 24 hours a day without interruption, so it can be difficult for a
victim of cyber bullying to find relief. Most information communicated electronically is
permanent and public, if not reported and removed. A negative online reputation,
including for those who bully, can impact college admissions, employment, and other
areas of life.
