John Lewis: Christmas Advert

The commercial that I chose is from John Lewis. For those who dont
know, John Lewis is an important chain of upmarket department stores
in Britain.

The advert tells the tale of an unlikely friendship between a little boy
called Sam and his friend Monty, a real-life penguin who looks very
realistic.

No one speaks, the story is told just through the pictures and the song.

Sam, the boy, and Monty, the penguin, play all day long but Sam
realizes that Monty is lonely. Suddenly, he looks wistfully at couples
holding hands.

Sam decided to give Monty the only thing he really wants: a mate
called Mabel.

The message is clearly that John Lewis, is not just a high street shop. It
sells love itself! The strapline for the advert is "Give someone the
Christmas they've been wishing for".

In my opinion this is a good commercial because It is very creative and

calls to our hearts. It is a lovely message with many little touches which
we don't notice at first sight but which work together to give us the
idea of a perfect Christmas. I think it was also a good idea to choose
Tom Odell, a young artist with a nice voice, to sing the John Lennons
song and the power of love to make you feel warm. This is a very
beautiful and nostalgic ad which touch my heart!
