EXT. FRONT SIDE OF A HOUSE - DAY

The story happens in Alaska in 1983. A young girl (Red: age 10)
running right in front of her house. Reds dad is a 30 year old, 58
man who is always wearing a red hoodie. Shes chasing her puppy (a
white-gray A laskan Malamute with a green collar way too big to fit
him) carrying a bag of dog cookies
RED
Come on Jake! *laughs*

Jake barks while running. Jake immediately runs into the forest
barking.

RED
Jake where are y
ou going?

Red chases her dog into the forest. Her dad is also there.

RED
Hey dad d

ee Jake?

LUKAS
No I h
avent sweetie. W
anna go look for him?

RED
Sure. He should be near by. T
he Forest is
really nice dont you think d ad?

LUKAS
e should come o
Yeah w ut here more often. You
know w hat dog breed J ake is right?

RED
Yeah an Alaskan malamute r ight? I ts t oo bad
that we cant find Jake. I even l eft a trail of
treats for him.

A group of 3 people (around the age of 13 - 14) are harassing and

poking a bear. The bear tries to keep calm but is annoyed. The bear
doesnt get up it just stays layying down.

Red doesnt to move
RED
I cant I

cared and cold.

Lukas gives Red his hoodie. But Red is still standing there.

One of the teenagers throws a rock.

LUKAS
Hey leave that bear a
lone!

The bear finally gets up and a

ttacks the 3 teenagers. One of them
gets slashed in the stomach. A s the bear i s about to attack another
one of them Lukas pushes him o ut the way a nd gets hit instead. Lukas
dies from this.

RED
Daddy!

Red immediately runs a way crying. Following t he t rail of dog treats

she left. After this d ay Red has never seen h er d og and thought he
died in the forrest.

5 YEARS LATER
INT. INSIDE REDS L IVING ROOM - NIGHT
Red is now 15 and i s wearing her dads red hoodie. Her m other is in
her early 40s she i s sick in bed coughing and sneezing a lot as she
talks.

MARY
Red I need you to give this basket of medicine
to your grandmother, but since its getting
late Im gonna need you to go through the
forest. Its quicker and less dangerous.

RED
But the forest. Jake and dad both died there.

MARY
Do you w

auses and shakes. With a tear in her eye she takes the basket

and g rabs an oil lamp.

MARY
Red I want you to grow. If you conquer t
his
youll be able to get past anything in l ife.
Get past your fears and you wont have a ny.

RED ( now m ore happy)

Ok Mom, bye. I l ove y ou.

ACT 2
EXT - F
OREST - NIGHT
We can see Red carrying a dimly lit lantern. Shes trembling.
Footsteps are heard behind her, and a silhouette figure is
shown walking past her in the distance but she doesnt see it.
A shot of the trees is shown. An owl hoots and flies away. Red
steps on a twig and jumps with shock. She runs as fast as she
can. Almost immediately, she runs into a tree.
RED
Ouch! That really hurt. Why did I even come in here?
I want to go home.

Red sits down next to a tree and puts her head on her legs. She
starts to cry.

RED
Why did my mom have to get sick now? Why did my
grandmother need medicine today? Why does she even
live in the forest to begin with? Let me just rest.

She lies down on a soft brown substance. The footsteps get

louder

RED
Stupid forest, I dont understand why so m any people
like you. We should just destroy nature. W hat has it
done for me? Take my dad and dog away at t he same
time.

ed looks at what shes laying on and its a deer. The deer is
asleep.

RED
Oh my god! Im laying on a

s it ok? Is it
dead?

She hears foot steps walking on the dry leaves and twigs on the
floor. Red grabs her lantern and her grandmothers medicine and
is about to run. She looks behind her and sees a ruffled and
beat up, wolf like animal. The wolf is wearing a collar but it
is hardly visible.
RED
Did you kill this deer? Why is nature so cruel?

Suddenly the wolf jumps at her and b arks. Red runs as f

ast as
she can. Red thought the deer was dead. Once Red runs away the deer
gets up and walks away.

RED
Help! Help! Can s

Red drops her lamp a nd is t

oo scared to go back and get it. She
hides in a log and b egins t o cry again.

RED
Why is this happening t
o me right now? Why does
everything bad always h appen to me in this
forest?

Red cant see anything while shes in the log. She hears frogs.

RED
I have to calm down. Theres nothing h ere. T
he f
rogs a

alm so why
cant I be?

FROGS
Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, rubbit, run, r
un ,
run, run. Run Red!

Red hears the frogs say this and struggles to get out the log. She
hears footsteps again. She wiggles even faster and is finally able to
get out the log. She grabs her oil lantern, which is running out of

fuel, and runs away from the sound of the foot steps. She hides in a
bush.

RED
I need to get out of here! Do I really need a
grandma! I mean she only has like a few years left.
Its not like shell be alive forever. Out with the
old and in with the new you know? I should just go
back home. Theres really nothing stopping me.

She hears the footsteps creep up to her again and a loud bark.

RED
This is it. Im dead t

Suddenly an ominous voice is heard

LUKAS VOICE

Dont give up run. Run away! Run!

Red runs as fast as she can. She slips and and begins to roll down a
hill.
A camera shot of the wolfs feet are shown running.
Red continues rolling until she reaches the near end of the forest.
She gets back up. Her clothes are filthy. The basket is missing.

RED
uch. Im covered in dirt and grass.
*Groaning* O

She doesnt notice the basket isnt with her. She gets back up. The
wolf trudges in front of her. The two look at each other. Red is
terrified. The wolf jumps at her. The camera goes black as she
screams.

ACT 3

EXT. FOREST NIGHT

Red runs out of the forest as the wolf jumps at her. Red and the wolf
stare at each other Red outside the Inside inside the forest. The
wolf walks turns back and trudges into the forest. She sees her

he door please!

eds grandmother is a
bout 80 y ears old and looks very sick. Her
grandmother opens the d oor for R ed.

GRANDMOTHER
What happened Red why are you out of breath and where is
the basket your mother sent me?

RED
There was a wolf that was t
rying to eat me in t
he f orest.
I was running from it the w hole night. I have t he b asket
right here.

Red notices she doesnt have the basket of medicine.

RED

GRANDMOTHER
No Red, if you said theres a wolf i
n the forest I
ant you to risk y
wouldnt w our life
for that basket.

RED
But Grandma you need the m

GRANDMOTHER
Its alright Red well go look f
or it in the morning.

randmother gets Red to go to sleep and she also falls asleep

EXT. REDS GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE-MORNING

eds Grandmother and Red walk outside. Red is holding her r ed
sweater in her hand. Red sees the wolf and the two stare at e ach
other. The wolf has the basket of medicine in his mouth.

RED
Why do you have that? It doesnt belong to you! Arent you
going to jump and attack me? Im right here, out in the
open. *scoffs* Its funny. The one thing I was scared of
last night isnt scary to me now. Well what are you
waiting for? Im right here.

Suddenly Reds grandmother begins running and screaming at Red.

GRANDMOTHER
Red whered that dog come from? O
h, is that an Alaskan
Malamute?

RED
An An Alaskan Malamute? The same b reed my dog was. A re
No you cant be. He died. Theres n o way you can be J ake.

Red begins crying

RED
You cant be h
im. Jake was kind, and happy. Youre not
Jake, youre a wolf. Not my dog.

Jake walks t
o Red. Jake is w earing a green collar on his neck. At
this point R ed has a blank e xpression on her face. She drops her
sweater on t he ground.

RED

now. B hy? Why did you attack me?

Jake suddenly jumps at Red. Then begins licking her face out of
happiness.

RED (laughing)

looking f or you or w aiting for y ou to come back and get
him.

Jake begins to bark with joy.

RED
So that m eans that theres nothing in this forest. This

Suddenly a heavy breeze of air blows by. R eds sweater f lies off of
her, she tries to stop it but she cant. R ed stares at t he sweater
with shock then she grins. They all walk b ack into the h ouse.
