Audience demographics are quantative data that can define and categorise an audience through various
factors, usually socioeconomic.
Audience research is produced and this allows the institution to understand what would appeal towards
their target market.
Demographics can be based on:
Age
Sex
Race
Ethnicity
Religion
Sexual Orientation
Income
Education
Occupation
Marital status
Home ownership
Nationality
Region
Number of children
Political affiliation

This information is extremely useful for advertisers as they are able to see if a certain audience is attracted
to that brand/media and can place their adverts accordingly.
It is almost like the production company/broadcaster sells their audience to the advertiser so that
appropriate adverts can be placed in their platform.
