Moldovan Stereotypes: Truth or Myth?

Republic of Moldova is a beautiful country but for other people we are an unknown country
and also some wonder if we live in Africa. That's why a lot of stereotypes are being created
about Moldovans and our country. Some stereotypes are funny and unreal but some of them are
real and difficult to assimilate.

Firstly, we will speak about the fact that Moldova is a poor country. Yes, maybe we dont
have a lot of money but we have enough money to survive. Also we are a rich country because
we have many beautiful places, we have fertile lands and we have many hardworking people. I
can understand why other people see us as a poor nation but they do not know us, for them we
are just a small and unknown country from another world.

Are we a lazy nation? I dont think so maybe we dont have courage to defend our rights
but we work hard every day because for us work means life. We cannot stay without doing
something useful, our hands are asking for work and our feet require daily work.

One of the stereotypes that annoy me the most is that people in Moldova are drinking very
much. We are a wine country, we cannot imagine our celebration meal without wine but that
does not mean we're alcoholics. We like to drink wine at a special occasion and some specialists
recommend people to drink wine. Therefore we are not alcoholic because we regularly drink
wine.

Another stereotype is about our culture, maybe we dont have an Einstein or one like
Newton but we have many smart, educated and talented people. Our Moldovans read many
books and tend towards development. Some people think that in our country children are forced
to work hard or that they dont know about games, love and education.

I want to say that we are not primitive people. We are a decent people that deserve and must
be respected. I'm proud of the country I live in, and I will not allow anyone to hurt my people,
we are not perfect but we are faithful, cheerful and clever.
