Excel Lesson 3

Section A. Define the following vocabulary (8 pts):

Double arrow cursor; A double arrow cursor is what your mouse is called when you are changing
the width or height

Merge cells; Merging cells means connecting cells.

Wrap text; Wrapping text means making the formula in more than one line in a cell

AutoFit column width/height; AutoFit is when the computer adjust the width or height so that the
formula fits perfectly.

Section B. Explain how to do the following (12 pts):

1. Modify row height and width: To modify the row height and width
you must first position your mouse over the row line. Click and drag the line to where you want
it to be. Release the arrow and it will stay there.
2. Insert columns and rows: To insert a column or row you must first select the row under or the
column to the right. Then you must click the insert command and the row or column will
appear.
3. Delete columns and rows: To delete a column or row you must first select the column or row
you want to delete. Then you must click the delete command and the rows or column will be
deleted.
4. Access all the Merge Options: To access more merge options you must click the drop-down
arrow next to the merge and center command at the home tab.

Section C. Critical Thinking (9 pts):

1. When would it be wise to wrap text in a cell? Why? It will be wise to wrap text in a cell when
you have a lot of text in one cell because it will help you see the formula better and you don't
have to make the cell longer.
2. What is the Merge and Center command used for? The merge and center command is used to
connect cells together and center the formula.
3. What does it mean when you see pound signs (######) in a cell? What do you have to do if
you see pound signs(####) in a cell? When you see pound signs in a cell it means there is too
much text in a cell and you should probably make the cell longer.
