Lesson idea implementation: For this lesson, the students will be learning about womens suffrage. I will
start the lesson by defining the word suffrage on the board. We will discuss as a class how women did not
always have a right to vote and why it is important for all people to have the right to vote. Next, I will read
them a book about Susan B. Anthony to introduce her. I will then split the students into groups of 3-5 students
and give each group the timeline I have created about Susan B. Anthony. The students will go over the
timeline in their groups.
Next, the students will get to go on the internet and find their own events to add to the timeline. The
students must find events that relate to womens suffrage or anti-slavery that fall between the year 1820
(when Susan B. Anthony was born) and 1920 (when women were given the right to vote). Each group must
find 3 events and be able to explain why their event is important for womens suffrage or the anti-slavery
campaign. The students will be expected to present their events to the class.
