TOEFL
Test of English as a Foreign Language: Is a standardized test to measure the English
language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enrol in English-speaking universities.
The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions.
TOEFL is one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being
the IELTS.
TOEFL is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which designs and
administers the tests. ETS issues official score reports, sent independently to institutions, for
two years following the test.

PTE

Pearson Test of English Academic is the world's leading computer-based test of English
for study abroad and immigration.

PTE Academic offers fast, flexible English testing. Candidates can schedule their test as little
as twenty-four hours in advance, and typically receive their results within five business days.

It is accepted by thousands of academic programs worldwide, including prestigious


institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Yale University.

PTE Academic is also accepted for visa applications


GRE

Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Is a standardized test that is an admissions


requirement for most Graduate Schools in the United States. Created and administered by
the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The exam aims to measure verbal reasoning,
quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired
over a long period of learning and that are not entirely based on any specific field of study
outside of the GRE itself. The GRE General Test is offered as a computer-based exam
administered at Prometric testing centers.

UTME

The United Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a computer-based standardized


examination for prospective undergraduates in Nigeria. It is designed to assess problem
solving, critical thinking, knowledge of scientific concepts and principles significance of each
subject taken. Prior to 2014 the exam was a paper-and-pencil test; since May 17, 2014,
however, all administrations of the exam have been computer-based at Prometric testing
centers.

GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test GMAT is a computer adaptive test (CAT)
intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written
English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. It
requires knowledge of certain grammar and knowledge of certain algebra, geometry, and
arithmetic. GMAT is a registered trademark of the Graduate Management Admission
Council.

USMLE

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE): Is a three-step examination


for medical licensure in the United States and is sponsored by the Federation of State
Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). Physicians
are required to pass this examination before being permitted to practice medicine in
the United States.

The USMLE assesses a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles,
and to determine fundamental patient-centered skills that are important in health and
disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.

The steps are as follows: Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 2 CS and Step 3. Step 1 and Step 2 CK
exams can be taken at Prometric test centers worldwide. The Step 2 CS and the Step 3 can
only be taken in the USA.
PLAB

The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test is for doctors who have
qualified overseas and wish to practise medicine in the UK under limited registration. The
test assesses your ability, as a doctor, to work safely as a senior house officer (SHO) in a
UK NHS hospital.

It is a two part assessment that overseas doctors (or international medical graduates), from
outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland, usually need to pass before they can
legally practise medicine in the UK. It is conducted by the General Medical Council of
the United Kingdom. The test is designed to assess the depth of knowledge and level of
medical and communication skills possessed by the international medical graduates.

The PLAB test has 2 parts:


Part 1 : Consists of a multiple choice format examination paper with 200 SBA's (Two
Hundred Single Best Answer questions) lasting 3 hours, This part is conducted in a number
of countries including Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Sri Lanka.
Part 2 : Consists of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). This Part is
available only in the city of Manchester, United Kingdom. It consists of 18 clinical stations. All
the stations are eight minutes long, plus two minutes reading time.
