ABSTRACT:

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an inert gas, which is present in hydrocarbon deposits, sometimes
considerably, so a recovery treatment must be made in the gas treatment plants, because of
their Properties of air pollution, corrosion, damage to health or also, is present in non-
significant quantities, so it is not necessary to separate it from the gas stream.

The Santa Rosa field gas stream contains more than 10% CO2 and is separated into the
recovery unit in a process plant. Once separated from the stream the gas is vented to the
atmosphere at a flow of 4.2 million cubic feet per day approximately, in the absence of a CO2
utilization system.

The design of a CO2 recovery system is proposed, to eliminate the environmental pollution
caused and its use as an improved recovery method.

The basic engineering analysis was performed to determine the equipment needed for the
CO2 recovery system and its transportation to the injector well, as well as a cost analysis to
determine the project's profitability.

By putting the system into operation, the company or operator could become the first in the
country's hydrocarbon industry to implement a CO2 re-injection system, fulfilling the main
objective of minimizing the emission of this atmospheric pollutant.
