Problem:

from NLB's gateway, a catalyst switch, we can ping the physical IP address of MS
NLB, but not the virtual IP. NSK is layer2, and if we set up SVI there, itis the same
problem.
Resolution:

+ make sure that static mac entry has been configured on all switches for all
available paths to the servers!!
+ Static mac address entry for the NLB multicast mac address is REQUIRED in
the Catalyst as per this document:

+ Since | didn't see the ip arp entry for the VIP in NSK, | tried to add it as static
entry, however, this was not supported in NSK. | continued to use the next step as
a workaround.
+L used this link’s method to calculate the multicast ip address based on the
given multicast mac address from

‘because we are not able to configure static ARP, as per this

IGMP snooping static-group on Nexus 5K using the ip address | got from the

+ if there is no PIM or L3 multicast in the network, on the NSK, configure IGMP.
snooping querier, you can point to the default gateway of the vian, This is needed
since NLB is using multicast.

‘one thing to be mindful of is that, if you are using Cisco UCS, you may have links
from Nexus 5000 to each Fl, so in total 2 port channels, static mac addresses
ineed to be mapped to both port channel to the FI
