As many as 20 out of 38 Tourists who went to see Pavithra Sangamam on a private boat breathed

their last after it capsized. 15 Members have survived. Rescue Operation is still on for tracing those
who went missing.

A heart-breaking incident which took place during the rescue operation has pained a lot of people.
Elderly Women identified as Lakshmikantham suffered a cardiac arrest on the spot upon seeing her
Daughter Leelavati's Dead Body.

Most of the victims were the members of Ongole Walkers Club. Rs 700 was charged from each one
of the tourists for the trip covering temples and tourist attractions around the new capital. 38
people boarded the boat which have a capacity of just 15 and none of them were given life jackets.

Government announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for those who are enrolled to Chandranna Bheema.
Whereas, Others will be receiving Rs 8 lakh each.

A Committee comprising of Senior IAS & IPS Officers will be constituted to probe the boat mishap. A
Case under Section 304 of IPC was booked against the Owner of the Boat. Six Workers of the Private
Firm operating the boats fled from the spot after the mishap. The Owner was taken into custody by
the cops.
