Dear Siegfried Waterford,

Hello brother, I hope you have reached Switzerland safely. My wife and
I are arranging to make plans for our evacuation. Things are crazy and chaotic around
here. You won't believe the things that happened while you were gone. Our community
is slowly emptying and Jews are being taken to someplace by the Nazi's. You must not
come back for this place has turned into ruins. Just a few days ago, a pogrom was
planned by the Germans on the Jews and they broke into many homes and shops all
over our community. They stole fine jewelry, gold coins, baskets of bread, and many
more valuables. Remember Mr. And Mrs. Walter? They and their children have been
taken by the Nazi's. They were told to pack their luggage and there were to transported
to an "elegant" destination. But, of course, no one believed them. Anyways, how are
things there? Is it better than what we are living in right now? Hopefully this works out
and we are able to arrange some mode of transportation and get out of this mess. Hope
for the best and see you soon.

Faithfully, Jonathon Rubin
