MARLYN ABDUL MALIK PERONE, SENIOR ASSOCIATE

MARLYN ABDUL MALIK PERONE graduated from the University of Reading

with a LL.B (Hons) in 2007. She then went on to pursue the Certificate of Legal
Practice (CLP) in Brickfields Asia College in 2009. She spent the term of her
pupillage with Messrs Cheah Teh & Su in October 2009 until July 2010.
Marlyn was called to the Malaysian Bar in September 2010. Thereafter she
became a Legal Associate in Naqiz & Partners Technology, Media and
Telecommunications (TMT) and Intellectual Property Department. In May
2014, Marlyn then joined Azmi & Associates where she subsequently lead the
Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group until December 2016.
She then joined Sime Darby Plantation Bhd as an Assistant Vice President,
where she managed the companys entire Intellectual Portfolio before joining
Zurina in November 2017.

Marlyn has been exposed to various matters in the area of intellectual property, privacy, technology,
media and telecommunication, inter alia:

A. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY MATTERS

Providing legal advices on trademark, patent and copyright registration and infringement issues;

Drafting Trade Mark and Patents License Agreements;

Drafting Deed of Assignments in relation to Intellectual Property;

Conduction of various Intellectual Property Due Diligence audit exercises and drafting
of Intellectual Property Due Diligence Reports for multinational listed companies;

Providing legal advices on Franchise registrations matters as well as the drafting

of franchise agreements for a numerous foreign franchisors ;

Providing legal advices in relation to compliance with the Personal Data Protection
Act;

Drafting of numerous sponsorship, collaboration, media related and brand

ambassador agreements for a leading local food and beverage distributor.

Drafting of numerous manufacturing and distribution agreements for a leading local

food and beverage distributor.

Drafting and attending to documentation in relation to filing of Domain Name Dispute

Proceedings;

Drafting and negotiation of numerous original equipment manufacturing agreements;

Drafting and negotiation of Technology Transfer and Acquisition Agreements for

numerous multinational and listed corporations;

B. TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA AND TELECOMMUNICATION

Providing legal services towards the drafting of documentation relating to a substantial

IT Project to upgrade the IT systems of an Islamic charity collecting institution;

Assisted in the advising, drafting and negotiation of documentation relating to a

substantial IT project to upgrade the IT Systems of an international financial
institution.

Provision of legal services in relation to the drafting of numerous procurement

templates for a publicly listed telecommunications company as well as a local domain
registrar, which includes software licensing, maintenance, design and supply of
software and hardware agreements, as well as a number of service agreements.

Providing legal services by assisting in the advising, drafting and negotiation of

documentation relating to a media concession agreement with the Government of
Malaysia.

Providing legal services in relation to the drafting of numerous Supply, Delivery,

Commissioning, System Integration and Technology Transfer Agreements for a public
listed leading local Automotive manufacturing, assembly and distribution company.

Providing legal services in relation to the drafting and negotiations of a Technology

Acquisition Agreement for a local Technology Malaysian company who acquired
Technology Assets and Intellectual Property of a large US based Technology Company;

Providing legal services in relation to advising Malaysia Software Testing Board in

formalizing its collaboration with UNL and Tron Forum based in Japan, together with
highly decorated professional Professor Ken Sakamura, with regard to the
implementation of U-Code in Malaysia, in an effort to spearhead the Internet of Things
(IoT) Movement.
 Among others, Marlyn has also recently passed the Intellectual Property Valuation
Examination certified by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia in collaboration
with the World Trade Institute, University of Bern, Switzerland.
