Delhi officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi or NCT, is a city and a union territory of India. It is
bordered by Haryana on three sides and by Uttar Pradesh to the east. The NCT covers an area of 1,484
square kilometers (573 sq. mi). Delhi is the second wealthiest city after Mumbai in India, with a total wealth
of $450 billion and home to 18 billionaires and 23,000 millionaires. Delhi is also the centre of the National
Capital Region (NCR), which is a unique 'interstate regional planning' area created by the National Capital
Region Planning Board Act of 1985.

Healthcare in Delhi
The total bed capacity of medical institutions in Delhi was 49,969 as on 31st March 2015 for total 1188
(Govt./Pvt.) Medical Institutions (hospitals) working in Delhi. The number of beds in the Medical Institutions
operated by Government of India, Delhi Government & Local bodies constituted as 21.67 percent, 21.65
percent, 7.59 percent respectively and beds in private nursing homes/ hospitals/ voluntary organizations
was recorded at 48.39 per cent. In addition to the renowned government hospitals, Delhi has also showed
the highest private sector participation in health sector.

Delhi's hospital bed to population ratio is little more than half of the WHO's recommended standard of 5
beds per 1,000 population, even though allocation to health sector under annual plans has significantly
increased in the last decade.

The number of beds in Delhi hospitals increased to 49,969 in 2015-16, nearly 20 per cent more than
what it was six years ago, according to the latest Economic Survey of the national capital released today.
The total number of hospital beds increased from 41,706 in 2010 to 49,969 in 2015-16 thereby also
increasing the bed population ratio (beds per 1,000 persons) from 2.54 to 2.76 in the same period.
Per capita expenditure on health in Delhi has increased to Rs 2,999 in 2015-16 from Rs 1,243 in the
year 2009-10.
