Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback We will read the objective posted on the white board. Students will write the objective down in their in their Cornell notes. Reinforcing Effort and Providing Feedback We will reinforce student effort by using sincere and specific feedback. For example we could say something along the lines of That is a great key term that you pointed out. I can see how it connects to the theme of the overall song. Cooperative Learning We will use cooperative learning by allowing students to work in their groups to find the key terms of a song the class selected. After finding key terms, they will determine the theme of the song. Cues, Questions and Advance Organizers We will be using an advanced organizer to write the title of the song of their choice, who it is by, key terms, and the theme. This will be a paper that has been folded horizontally. The front page will have the title of the song and artist. Once it opens, the top square will have key terms. The bottom square will have possible themes listed. We will cue our students by allowing them to choose a song to work on independently. We will question our students by asking them to find the key terms and themes. Nonlinguistic Representations We will use nonlinguistic representations by using YouTube to listen to the selected song. Summarizing and Note taking The students will be finding key terms and themes initially in their notebook. They will summarize the theme in two sentences on their advanced organizer. Generating and Testing Hypothesis Students will have prior knowledge if they have heard the song before. Identifying Similarities and Differences Students can compare and contrast the themes from Born this Way, the chosen class song, and their individual song. Assigning Homework and Providing Practice If students do not finish their project, they can take it home to work on it. It will be due at the end of class the next day.
