Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 February 4, 1983) was an American singer and
drummer. She and her brother Richard Carpenter formed the 1970s duo The Carpenters.
Carpenter suffered from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that was little known at the
time. She died at age 32 from heart failure caused by complications related to her illness.
Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 April 5, 1994) was an American musician,
artist, songwriter, guitarist and poet. He struggled with heroin addiction, chronic health
problems and depression. He also had difficulty coping with his fame and public image.
Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle, the victim of what was officially ruled a
suicide by a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head. He died at the age of 27.
