1. Select a website that you regularly visit and evaluate it using the heuristics in Box 15.1
(chapter 15 of Book "Interaction Design").
2. Do these heuristics help you to identify important usability and user experience issues?
why?
3. Does being aware of the heuristics influence how you interact with the website in any
way? if yes, how?
4. Complete the drawing tool STN in Figures 16.1 and 16.3 1 (chapter 16 of Book "Human
Computer Interaction") by writing dialog descriptions for the following text and paint
submenus:
a. For the text submenu assume that there are three options: centered, left and right
justified. The text is entered by clicking at a location in the drawing surface and
then typing. You may assume that typing each character can be regarded as a
single user action.
b. The paint submenu has two options: a pencil for freehand drawing and a paint pot
for flood filling. The former is performed by holding the mouse button down whilst
moving the mouse about to draw the line. The paint pot is activated by simply
clicking the mouse over the area to be filled.
5. Rank the following in terms of levels of intention:
List them from low intention to high intention and discuss why you think so.
a. automatic doors into hotel
b. automatic water taps in washbasin
c. reversing lights in a car
d. ultrasonic burglar alarm
e. auto-numbering lists in a word processor
f. web page counter
g. font menu in word processor that shows recent fonts at the top of the list
