Water supply transfer pump calculations:

Example:

A building consists of Ground floor + 5 Parking floors + 15 Residential

floors.

1- Pump Flow Calculation:

- Roof Water Tank Size = 14850 Imp Glns.
- Time of Filling: 3 hours.

Capacity required: Q = 14850/ 220x3 = 22.5 m3/hr.

2- Pump Head Calculation:

- Height of the building = 70 Mtrs.

- Used Pipe Size = 2 1/2" (internal diameter).
- Pipe Type: PP-R.
- Total length of pipe = 95 Mtrs.
- No. of 90o bends = 8 pcs.
- No. of Tees = 2 pcs.
- No. of sockets = 30 pcs.
- No. of gate valves = 2 pcs.
- No. of non return valve = 1 pc.

Total Head = Hs + Hf + Hr.t .. [Mtrs]

Where:
Hs Static Head.
Hf Friction Head.
Hr.t Pressure Required at Roof Tap (the pressure of water at roof tank
inlet).

Hs = 70 mtrs (1)

Hf = 3.28/100 X friction head loss (feet / 100 feet of pipe)

X total equivalent length of pipe. [Mtrs]

Total equivalent length of pipe = main pipe length + equivalent lengths

of fittings.
According to the uniform plumbing code:
- Eq.l of 90o bend = 2.4 mtrs.
- Eq.l of Tee = 3.6 mtrs.
- Eq.l of socket = 0.8 mtrs.
- Eq.l of gate valve = 0.5 mtrs.
- Eq.l of non return valve = 6 mtrs.

Total equivalent length of pipe = 95+19.2+7.2+24+6+1 = 152.4 mtrs.

Friction head loss = 4.58 (feet/100 feet).[see the second enclosed file]

Hf = 3.28/100 x 4.58 x 152.4 = 22.8 mtrs(2)

Hr.t = 1 bar = 10 mtrs.(3)

Ht = 70 + 22.8 + 10 = 102.8 mtrs

H = 103 mtrs = 10.3 bar.

Q = 22.5 m3/hr.
