Candance Turner

Project Part 2

I. Two Variables:

Qualitative=Candy Color (what is the quality of the colors in the bag). It allows for the classification of
individual candies based on the color itself. The individuals are the candies.

Quantitative=Number of candies per bag (You can count how many candies are in the bag). Provides the
numerical measures, and can be added or subtracted and provides us with meaningful results. The
individuals are the bag of candy itself.

II. Pie chart:

Sample size 3375

(I chose these colors instead of the others because they are brighter, the others I played with were just
dull to me!)
III. Numerical Summaries:

Summary statistics:

Column Sum
Purple 658
Red 709
Orange 659
Yellow 667
Green 682

Summary statistics:

Column Sum
Total 3375

IV. Quantitative Variables:

V. Numerical Summaries of Quantitative Variable.

Column n Mean Std. Median Range Min Max Q1 Q3 IQR Mode Unadj.
dev.(s) std.
dev.(o)
total 56 60.267 2.863 60.5 14 51 65 59 62 3 60 2.837

VI. Box plot:

Fences:
Lower Fence 59-1.5(3)= 54.5 anything less than that is an outlier.
Upper Fence 62+1.5(3)= 66.5 anything more than that is an outlier.

Q1 Q3 IQR
59 62 3

*Based on my bag, I had no outliers. My bag had a total of 60

VII. Shape of Distribution:

No, it is appropriate to discuss the shape of distribution for qualitative, because categories
can be rearranged. So we dont discuss shape for candy color.

It is appropriate to discuss it for quantitative which was the total number of candies. The
shape of the histogram and the boxplot are both skewed left.
