Counselor Orientation

Humanistic- using a holistic, person-centered approach, I strive to focus on a persons potential

and encourage productive self-awareness and thoughtful action, while providing positive support.

Theoretical Approach
Social Cognitive Theory- The emphasis that this theory places on self-efficacy, outcome expectations and
goal selection is highly relevant to students in Higher Ed. I believe that academic and career decisions stem from ones
self-image and personal expectations.

Family Systems Theory- I believe that an individual is best understood in the context of their family. The family is a
powerful unit and behavior patterns, attitudes and actions are influenced by the family dynamic they experienced, and as
a counselor it is helpful to understand these influences and assist the student in seeing them, too.
