Introduction

Project Overview

Thorton P. Snodgrass III has contracted Bill, Rob and Sue to develop a point-of-Sale (POS) system for the
GIORP-5000 Personal Shopping Kiosk. This POS system is meant to be much smaller and focused than the
previous incarnation, the GIORP-5000, which allowed shoppers to checkout and pay for items purchased
in any store.

This POS system will be made up of 3 main sub-systems:

Item Entry
This sub-system consists of a GUI front end which allows a user to scan the barcode of the item
being purchased. The user can also select an item to purchase from a list of available items in a
stores catalog. This subsystem will be developed by Sue.

Store Item Database

This subsystem allows the system to check prices of various items which are scanned and/or
manually entered. This subsystem will be developed by Bill.

Item Entry Verification

This subsystem provides verification and validation functionality. This subsystem checks whether
the item the user says is being purchased is legitimately the item that is being purchased. This
subsystem will be similar to the place your item in the bag type of verification system
deployed in grocery store POS systems. This subsystem will be developed by Rob.
