- Departmentalization is a key element in organizational structure apart from
work specialization, chain of command, span of control, centralization &
decentralization and formalization
- Definition: the basis by which jobs are grouped together
- Influences on OB
- 5 main types: simple, functional, divisional, matrix & team-based (go through
pros and cons of each type quickly)
2. Case summary and answer to the question:

- In this situation, the organization probably should adopt mainly a product-based


or client-based divisionalized structure as the Wolloonga Technologies makes 4
types of products for different types of clients. The company is sufficiently large
and complex that a simple or functional structure will not likely to work.

- A matrix structure is unnecessary because production is not project-based and


there doesnt require much complexity.

- Geographic divisionalization is not needed because "customer expectations and


needs are surprisingly similar throughout the world."

- A team-based structure might as well adopted if the company later on requires


more innovation as this type of structure is usually found within the
manufacturing operations of larger divisionalized structures
