Method

This research uses a descriptive explorative methodology. Descriptive research

according to Rachmat (2011) is a study aimed at: (1) collecting actual information in detail

describing existing symptoms, (2) identifying problems or checking the prevailing conditions

and practices, (3) making comparisons and evaluate, (4) determine what other people do in the

face of the same problem and learn from their experience to determine future plans and

decisions. The unit of study in this study is the media created by young people, especially the

political memes related to the 2014 election. Meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spread

from one person to another in a culture. Meme is a unit that brings ideas, symbols or cultural

practices transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or

other phenomena according to the theme being carried. The word meme comes from the word

meme originating from ancient Greece, which means imitation of something. Meme is a work

of reproduction from something to something else can even become new.
