Locus iste was written by German composer Anton Bruckner. Anton Bruckner was born
September 4th 1824 and died October 11th 1896. He was best known for his symphonies,
masses, and motets. Anton Bruckner was very enthusiastic to become one of Simon Sechter
students in 1855. In 1861 Bruckner had completed his studying under Sechter and had gained a
deep influence in his music from his teacher. Locus iste, Christus factus est, and Ecce sacerdos
magnus were some of his highest ranked achievements of the Roman Catholic church music.

Locus iste was from the end of Bruckners Linz years. It was composed in 1869 and is a sacred
motet. The lyrics are in Latin and Locus iste a Deo factus est can be translated to, This place
was made by God. This piece was meant for the Votivkapelle (votive chapel). This piece was to
be performed at the New Cathedral in Linz, Austria.

I personally love this piece. The dynamics of the song gives a very dramatic yet calming
sensation. The way the piece goes from quiet and soft to loud and strong captures my attention
and leaves me absolutely amazed. The way the voices blend and stand out from each other is
amazing.
