Lab 7- Reflection Uniformity (Lamberts reflector)

Pre-Laboratory activity

1. Define Lamberts law

Lamberts law says that the total radiant power observed from a Lambertian surface is
directly proportional to the cosine of the angle between the observers line of sight
and the surface normal.

2. Describe the relation between angle of light and intensity distribution.

The radiance of the surface under diffuse reflection depends on the angle from the
normal to the illuminating source, it does not depend on the angle from the normal to
the observer. When an area element is viewed from any angle, it will have the same
radiance. The emitted power from an area element is reduced by the cosine of the
emission angle, the observed size of the area element is also reduced by that same
amount, so that while the area element appears smaller, its radiance is the same.

3. Predict the error that might occur during experiment.

4. Recommend technique/tools to minimize error in (3).
