(Interment) Found Poem
An Executive Order No. 9066 came out A pall of gloom settled Patriots insisted loudly A Japs a Jap, no matter how you slice them Our rights as American Citizens would not be violated Now they're going to slap an alien 4-C on me because of my ancestry I felt like a despised, pathetic two headed freak Mother distributed sheets, pillowcase, and blankets which we stuffed into sea bags Henry went to the Control Station to register the family From then on, we were known as Family #10710 That night we rolled ourselves into army blankets like jelly rolls and slept on the bare floor The block monitor came around the first night to tell us that we must be inside our room by nine o'clock every night At ten o'clock, he rapped at the door again, yelling, Lights Out Through the barracks, there were a medley of creaking pots, whimpering infants and explosive night coughs The powerful beam of lights came from high tower placed around the camp Guards with Tommy Guns kept a twenty-four hour vigil I felt a sickening chill race up and down my spine The buzzing and droning continued louder and louder
We all shuddered as if we had had a brush with death
